Early Hospitalization/Family Spread

Day 5: Quarantine. I have decided on a short post today. Ted is still battling and will continue to for the next 3–5 days at least. While the meds are on board (an antibiotic and the plaquenil [This drug is no longer recommended for Covid-19]), he is getting more and more oxygen support. He is not ventilated, but I have been informed that it remains a possibility. He is in a medical ICU and they intubate people everyday. I have also been told today that even if that happens, he is expected to pull through. I am hanging on that with every fiber of my being. When I speak to him, I try to keep him positive.

I got swabbed today from the health department, and am presumptively positive due to being in close proximity to Ted. I do have symptoms, though mild, and I was able engage in teaching today with 2 student groups. I am quarantining myself from the girls and they are still fine. The bad think about covid-19, is that you never know if you will remain mild or get more serious…so much unknown and unpredictable. I am trying to take care of myself and reminding the girls to wash, wipe surfaces, etc.

There is one other thing that I have learned. When there is a crisis and you are having lots of anxiety, xanax works. I started it yesterday. Remember also, the healthcare providers working with Covid patients are learning everyday and working hard for our community to keep us safe. Be patient with them. They are trying to protect us. We are all vulnerable and they are too.

Disability policy in the US keeps consumers…disabled. I will use evidence to explain the issues and what needs to be done.
